2012 Mouth of Fitzroy river blowing and cold woke up to mist on river was
hard to get started in these temperatures went for a swim in surf that snapped
me out my sleepy state and pulled all my
wrinkles out .We were the only ones swimming
Victorians don’t even swim in this sort of cold .Arrived at Portland walked around town
admiring all the historic buildings .Caravan park tonight hot showers are such a luxury . Josie is still talking the walls of my tent
offer no protection at all .When she
talks I can go for a shower and can still hear her in the shower and return and
she doesn’t even notice I was gone .

2012 Gannet rookery at Portland
with maremma guard dogs and rifle range right behind us .Lets go Josie sounds
ideal , again disappointment nobody
there shooting unbelievable, how unlucky am I . Cape Nelson lighthouse and
Josie wouldn’t go near the edge she s a bit touchy here, must have some mental health issues .Fantastic coastal
scenery along road to Cape Bridgewater swam at bridgewater beach again only
ones in water .Walked to the enchanted forest with rare moonah trees . Walked
headland to view seal colony . .Drove to
blow hole and petrified forest type formations in eroded rock .Drove through Mt
Richmond saw echidnas crossing roads on way to Discovery bay coastal park .
Sitting outside warm night until about 9 30 when a cold change came through
with a gust off wind and the temperature fell immediately .

2012 Princess Margaret rose cave on the
banks of the Glenelg river impressive stalactites and stalagmites great
commentary with four blokes on our tour was like watching the movie [wild hogs
].Mt Gambier blue lake walked rim of crater Josie complaining again about every
downhill walk there s an uphill walk .I think they fenced the crater just for
these moments Engelbretch cave with
kiwi guide whom married local that explored cave when he was a kid .Walked
Umpherstons sink hole and Cave garden at
night

2012 Over night in centre
Mt Gambier spent half day on computer under Josie s orders absolute torture for me .
Josie s smiling offering words of encouragement like You Have To Do It .Bought
myself a new tent today and an orange beanie now my tent and beanie are more
flash than Josie s .

2012 Camped at Picaninnie ponds blowing
and showers here tonight wind was so strong tent was folding in on me, Josie complained
she didn’t sleep I had no problem .Camping tip don’t camp where they position
wind powered generators they may have actually picked a spot that’s windy
.

2012 Walked to Picaninnie pond
wasn’t going snorkelling to cold and windy yes im soft and no I not going to
harden up .Mt Shank where we met our guide the friendly dog she walked with us
all the way around .Waited with us while a shower of rain went over and left us
at the carpark not sure if we were supposed to give a donation in the form of a
yummy doggy treat .Millicent museum much bigger than I thought, started getting sleepy towards the end
.Istarted for the exit and Josie said it wasn t the exit so we spent another
ten minutes in the museum wandering
around looking for her exit that did not exist .I know I shouldn t have
listened to her directions she caught me at a weak moment .Drove to Beachport
great beach and jetty but the whole place smells like poo Josie said it’s the
seaweed, I think she was trying to cover up a severe bottom burp still debating
that one .

Camped little Dip national park showers all night and early morning into
Robe and its turned into a top day so after a walk around town we had lunch on the
foreshore with historic stone buildings behind us .We are eating so much I feel
like we are chewing our way around Australia leaving a trail of empty shelves
and bones in our wake .I need a step ladder to go to the toilet . Coorong
National park an area of coastal dunes and lakes stopped at chinamans well
where they cut a piece of rock to form a cap for their well about 1.2m in diameter . Further along and we
find a salt lake that used to produce salt for local markets .Has similar
colourings to lake Eyre .
25 March
2012 Coorong national park camp at Long Point pelican breeding area great spot lots of
birds and the fish were jumping .Travelled on free ferries that run twenty four
hours a day to get across lake at Narung and Murray river at Wellington . Morning tea at Milang after emptying bakery
.Goolwa very busy tourist town walked
around admiring historic buildings . Had a look at Goolwa barrage they use this
to control water levels and separate sea water and fresh water. Drove through
Victor harbour very pretty town .

March 2012 Camped at Deep creek national park arrived
at sunset with washing to hang as well
as set up camp .
27 March
2012 Stumbled across Talisker silver and lead mine on our way to Cape Jervis .
We explored mine site and even crawled up part of the flue on the way to the lookout .Kangaroo island ferry and you
have to pay for vehicle and passengers separately I think this is a rort we must be spoilt in
Qld .
